They're a very well made DSP with plenty of horsepower, and plenty of files available for not only JBL and Crown products, but for other manufacturers as well. I've worked with the 360 and for it's cost I would place it very high on the low cost DSP list. The question of sound quality is subjective of course, but I can certainly say that there was a big difference in sound between the 260's I owned, the 480's I've owned, and the 4800. And as far as I have been told there are no current replacements for the 4820 on the immediate horizon. The DriveRack 260 continues the legacy of DriveRack series, which has been created by the company that has been redefining the standard of signal processing for more than 30 years.
dbx is basically a 2:1 compression 1:2 expansion. Without getting into it, note that dbx claimed 20 dB of noise reduction, which naturally appeared to significantly outperform either Dolby A or B.

To be more specific, according to my mole at dbx the 4800 production was stopped solely because the color display became redundant with the influx of remote control via laptops and other devices. friendliness of the dbx or the Ashly for portable PA/monitor world use. The 4800 and it's sibling the 4820 are still considered dbx top of the line processors, even though the 4800 is no longer manufactured. The problem is they are quite a bit more money (330 for the PA2 and more like 800 for the 260) and I could build another 2 subs for the difference in price. Your best bet with either is to visit the JBL site and download the latest speaker tunings for the product you have. Originally I was going to get the driverack PA2 but research online seems to recommend spending more on the 260 instead.
However, you can't move presets from a 260 to a 360, or can you move presets from either of those over to a 4800, or 4820. One of those features is the ability to support the newer line of JBLs cabinets. The 360 does in fact have better features and is a more capable DSP than the 260.
